Liberty State Park Adds Group Picnic Area

New Jersey has added a new spot for group events at its most popular state park.

Groups can now rent a picnic pavilion at Liberty State Park in New Jersey, a spot that offers some of the best views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.

The pavilions were opened Thursday. One has room for 80 people, the other for 120. Rental prices start at $125 per day.

Department of Environmental Protection spokesman Larry Ragonese says they were put in with the cooperation of a friends-of-the-park group and local officials who were calling for a place for group events.

He says the public can use the facilities when they are not being used for events.

The area cost $1.8 million to develop.
