Judge Won’t Toss Charges In Rutgers Webcam Spying Case
A judge says all the charges will stand against a former Rutgers student accused of using a webcam to spy on his roommate's intimate encounter with another man.
Lawyers for Dharun Ravi argued Thursday that some of the charges of invasion of privacy and bias intimidation should be dismissed because the prosecution presented insufficient evidence that he committed those crimes.
Judge Glenn Berman says he'd planned to leave them all in but would make a final decision on a few of them Friday morning.
The ruling came in a response to a routine motion to dismiss charges after prosecutors rested their case.
Ravi's roommate, Tyler Clementi, committed suicide in September 2010, days after the intimate encounter.
Defense lawyers will begin calling witnesses on Friday.
