A homeless man was arrested in Millville after he allegedly hit a woman with a plastic lawn chair, leaving her in critical condition, authorities said.

The incident took place Sunday at 7:55 p.m. at City Liquor, NJ Advance Media reported. The suspect, who was identified as 62-year-old Clarence Jenkins, allegedly struck the woman with a broken chair, causing her "extensive head trauma.

Jenkins is being held on $35,000 bail after being charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, NJ Advance Media reported.

Police were unable to release any additional information regarding the nature of the incident as of Monday evening.
