Fireworks on the 5th of July (and beyond): Make-up dates after the rain
The rain caused several displays scheduled for Monday the fourth to be postponed until Tuesday.
Collingswood, Middle Township and Vineland all postponed their respective displays until Tuesday night. Wildwood and Margate made the early decision to postpone their respective displays until Saturday, July 9 citing the forecast of rain. The Tim McGraw concert on the beach in Wildwood went on as scheduled despite the rain.
Most displays around New Jersey were fired off as scheduled, as the rain approached many communitues made the decision to start earlier to avoid the rain.
Early Monday evening, as hundreds gathered on the boardwalk in Asbury Park to watch the display over the Atlantic Ocean fire inspector Garrett Giberson was watching the clouds gather and the wind pick up. Around 6:30 p.m. Giberson said the sustained winds were 13 mph and unless they hit a sustained speed of 25 mph the display was a go.
Garden State Fireworks, which created the display set off a test explosion around 7 p.m. which stirred up the crowd the crowd bundled up against the cool temperatures.
