The investigation into Joseph Dziowgo's death is being conducted by New York state police and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

Dziowgo, then 25, was reported missing in May 1973 from Bound Brook, where he lived with his wife and young daughter.

Investigators began to make headway after family members furnished DNA samples in 2010.

In May 2011, it was discovered that remains from a body found in Wawarsing, Ulster County, in 1984 matched the DNA given by family members.

Investigators have determined that Dziowgo was last seen in May 1973 staying with another man in a rented bungalow off Route 28 in Branchburg, Somerset County.
