Authorities say a southern New Jersey police officer fatally shot a man they say had barricaded himself in a relative's apartment.

Police say they responded to several hang-up calls to 9-1-1 from the Bellmawr apartment around 10:20 p.m. Thursday and learned that 37-year-old Michael Wood had barricaded himself inside.

They say that when they entered the apartment, they found Wood holding a knife.

An officer from Brooklawn shot him twice, killing him.

The officer, whose name has not been made public, has been placed on administrative leave while authorities investigate the shooting.
