Atheist Billboard Almost Torched in Pitman

Since 2011, a banner that reads "Keep Christ In Christmas" has been hung in Pitman. The Freedom From Religion Foundation has a problem wit dat, as we say in Jersey. They erected their own sign, a billboard the reads "Keep Saturn In Saturnalia." On Tuesday night, an off duty officer watched from across the street as two men stood beneath that billboard, tossing gasoline on it then lighting it. The fire didn't stay lit and as the off duty officer moved in, the men took off in a pickup truck.

The attempted arson isn't the first protest at the billboard. On Sunday a man in a Santa Claus suit stood at the sign for some time. Also on Sunday, another man accompanied by a woman and a child put an extension ladder up and tried pasting a poster with a picture of a manager over top of the billboard but police intervened.

Gotta love the holidays.
