Assessments of Damage from NJ Storms Begins
New Jersey emergency management officials say they're trying to get a handle on how much damage was caused last weekend by a punishing thunderstorm.
The New Jersey Office of Emergency Management says it will tally the costs for both individuals and government entities of the Saturday storm in Atlantic and Cumberland Counties and for the costs to government in Salem County.
The assessments could also be conducted in other counties. The accounting could be the basis of the state's request for federal aid.
The storm knocked out power for more than 200,000 homes and businesses in southern New Jersey.
