In the northern province of Kunduz, a local official says people in a crowd of demonstrators fired on police and threw grenades at a nearby U.S. base. At least two people were killed and seven NATO troops wounded.

Meanwhile, Afghan President Hamid Karzai is again telling his people that the Quran burning is being investigated and he's asking them to calm down and wait for the results.

More than 30 people have been killed including four U.S. soldiers since the incident came to light Tuesday. NATO has pulled hundreds of international advisers out of Afghan ministries out of concern that they might become the next targets of anti-foreigner anger.

Karzai spoke in a live television broadcast, urging Afghans not to "let our enemies use this situation."
