A fire destroyed several residences in a Burlington City row home and closed a school for the day.

Burlington City Police said the fire started on St. Mary Street around 5:27 a.m. and caused extensive damage to at least two of four residences.  Three residents were injured during the fire.

The fire was brought under control around 7:27 a.m. but firefighters remain on the scene to watch for possible flare ups from hot spots.

The Captain James Lawrence School, located at the end of St, Mary Street, was closed Friday because of the fire.

Police were not sure how many residents were displaced but said the Red Cross was envroute to offer help and shelter.
