The schools are among 78 across the country named Monday to the federal government's first list of Green Ribbon schools for their efforts to reduce their environmental impact, promoting health and incorporating outdoor and environmental lessons.

The New Jersey winners are Bernards High School, Midtown  Community Elementary in Neptune, Adler Avenue Middle School in Egg Harbor and The Willow School in Gladstone.

A new list of schools is to be named next year.
