ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS — Five people were arrested and two police officers were injured in connection with a motor vehicle pursuit that reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and began with a report of shots being fired over the George Washington Bridge.

New York residents Miguel A Nunez, 22; Anthony Javier, 25; Justin Cabrera, 24 and Francisco J Gonzales, 23, were all arrested for resisting arrest and a woman identified as Genesis Martinez, also of New York, was arrested for possession of marijuana.

The incident began around 10:30 p.m. Friday when Palisades Interstate Parkway Police received a 911 call reporting a hit-and-run collision on the parkway, just north of Rockefeller Lookout in Englewood Cliffs, police said.

As officers were en route, police were contacted by NYPD's 46th Precinct reporting that were were in pursuit of a vehicle wanted for shots fired over the GWB. The pursuit began in the Bronx and involved a 2015 Volkswage Tiguen - the same type of car wanted in connection with the hit-and-run.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle on the Palisades Interstate Parkway near Alpine Lookout, but the vehicle continued northbound, reaching speeds of about 100-110 miles per hour, with officers in pursuit, according to a statement by police. The chase continued for about five miles before the Volkswagen crashed and the four occupants fled on foot.

Police say three of the suspects were immediately apprehended, while the fourth person fled into a wooded area, leading police from New York and New Jersey on a manhunt. Police then learned that the male suspect had left the woods and crossed Route 9 in Alpine.

As police began to close in on the suspect, officers saw two vehicles in the area and eventually learned that "the occupants were called by the outstanding suspect to pick him up from the scene." At about 2 a.m. Saturday, police say one of the occupants -identified as Justin Cabrera - contact police and after some negotiation, he surrendered and was apprehended at a local restaurant in Alpine.

Authorities say a Closter Police Officer sustained a shoulder injury and a Bergen County Sheriff’s Officer was injured in the motor vehicle collision during the pursuit.
