A 50-year-old New Brunswick man was killed and four other people were injured when their boat capsized in waters off Perth Amboy.

Passing boaters called the Coast Guard around 5:40 p.m. Saturday to report the pleasure craft was sinking off Perth Amboy. They also reported that some people were in the water.

Coast Guard crews, joined by New Jersey and New York City authorities, responded and learned five people — four males and a woman — had been pulled from the water.

Four of the victims were treated at hospitals for minor injuries. But the other, Mario Baredales of New Brunswick, was pronounced dead shortly after being pulled from the water.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation Sunday.
