Toddler Left Behind In South Hackensack Motel

Authorities have arrested a New Milford couple after a 16-month-old girl was left behind in a South Hackensack motel room.

Employee Kishor Mehta tells The Record the couple left their room at the Stagecoach Motel around10:45 a.m. Wednesday. He says he entered the room after checkout time and found the toddler in a stroller.

Police say the toddler was unharmed and in good spirits.

An emergency medical technician says the child had a wet diaper and the room was filthy.

The girl's mother, 30-year-old Shannon McDevitt and her 27-year-old boyfriend, Timothy Kerr, are charged with child endangerment. McDevitt also was arrested on a burglary charge out of Madison.
