August 2nd, 1964, The Beatles appear at the Gaumont Cinema in Bournemouth. One of the supporting acts, billed as a 'new and unknown London group', was The Kinks.

August 5th 1969 - George Harrison uses his new Moog synthesizer at Abbey Road studios in the recording of their song 'Because'. The Beatles are finishing their 11th studio album 'Abbey Road'

August 3rd 1966 - The Beatles are banned by the South African government and can no longer be played on the radio. The decision stemmed from the controversy surrounding John Lennon's remarks on his band being "more popular than Jesus."

July 4th 1969 - Grand Funk Railroad play the Atlanta Pop Festival, in Georgia. Reps from Capitol Records like their show and sign the band. Other acts include Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Canned Heat, Joe Cocker, and Chicago.
