Five members of the Sayreville War Memorial High School football coaching staff have been suspended, published reports say, and a New York Times story Monday includes new details of the assaults and the resulting criminal investigation.

Maybe it's because they don't want to fully admit how ugly this is. Or maybe it's because it started in Sayreville as hazing rumors and reporters just can't make the leap. No matter the reason, we need to stop calling this 'hazing'.

Sports Illustrated and NJ Advance Media are reporting that Sayreville's high school football season was scrapped this week because prosecutors are investigating a pattern of lewd behavior. The prime sponsor of New Jersey's anti-bullying law said when she was pushing her legislation, she never imagined a situation like this.

Amidst the latest report that some players on the Sayreville HS football team may have been digitally penetrated by their teammates – some parents are wondering why the entire program had to be scrapped for a few bad apples. These parents feel that players who may have had nothing to do with the alleged offenses are being penalized along with the alleged perpetrators – as are some of the ancillary
