New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday called for a private operator to take over New York's troubled Penn Station, the nation's busiest rail station, where recent derailments and other problems have hampered commuters.
According to its new schedule, NJ Transit will bring back its late night train on the North Jersey Coast Line. It leaves New York Penn Station at 1 a.m. daily starting June 25.
NJ Transit riders in-and-out of New York Penn Station had delays of 20 minutes on Wednesday after fallen overhead wires caused problems and overcrowding Tuesday afternoon were repaired by Amtrak. More delays are expected on Wednesday and things could get worse before getting better.
Gov. Christie said that three recent derailments at New York Penn Station "continue to frustrate the travel of tens of thousands of NJ Transit customers."
