Somerset Medical Center Pursuing Merger

Somerset Medical Center in Somerville is pursuing a merger with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Somerset president and CEO Ken Bateman says the hospital is trying to strengthen its position and ability to provide care in the current and future health care environments.

Somerset Board of Trustees chairman Paul Stahlin says the parties are close to finalizing an agreement.

Terms have not been disclosed.

The merger would be subject to approval by state and federal regulators.
