FRANKLIN (SOMERSET COUNTY) — A 53-year-old woman died Saturday afternoon shortly after a box truck slammed into her SUV, sending it down an embankment, police said.

Police say Adejoke Sanusi, a resident of the Somerset section of this township, was driving north on Cottontail Lane when a Ford F-550 box truck traveling in the opposite direction failed to navigate a curve and struck the driver side of her Toyota Rav-4.

Police found both vehicles off the roadway and down an embankment near the Weston Canal Road intersection. Sanusi was pronounced dead after rescuers removed her body from the car.

The box truck was being driven by Walter Washington, 27, of the Parlin section of Sayreville. Police did not say that Washington suffered any injuries. He has not been charged with any crime, but the investigation continues by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

Firefighters from Elizabeth Avenue, Somerset Fire & Rescue, Millstone Valley Fire, and Middlebush fire companies responded to the scene.
