ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Atlantic City has reportedly submitted a layoff plan to state officials that calls for the elimination of about 200 positions.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that city officials confirmed the plan has been filed with the state's Civil Service Commission.

But city leaders declined to provide further details on the potential job cuts. They said those details would be discussed when the plan is made public, something that could happen as early as this week.

The proposed layoffs are part of the troubled resort town's financial recovery plans, along with major budget cuts. The city has seen the worth of its taxable property sharply plummet and four of its 12 casinos have closed down.
