WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump ordered flags to fly at half-staff in honor of the  victims of the shooting in Las Vegas that killed 50 and injured over 400 on Sunday night.

Speaking in the Diplomatic Room of the White House, Trump called the shooting an "act of pure evil" and the country is "joined today in sadness, shock and grief."

“We call upon the bonds that unite us, our faith, our family, and our shared values. We call upon the bonds of citizenship, the ties of community, and the comfort of our common humanity.”

Trump also praised law enforcement for their fast reponse to the shooting.

"I want to thank the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and all of the first responders for their courageous efforts," Trump said.

Trump said he will travel to Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Trump also sent a tweet earlier offering "warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims" of the shooting.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Stephen Craig Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada, opened fire on an outdoor country music concert from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. He took hjs own life as SWAT teams stormed the room.
