Scotch Plains police found the bodies of 48-year-old Jens Elberling and his 11-year-old son on Saturday morning. Officers had gone there after a request by a relative.A rifle was found in the home and there was no sign of forced entry.

Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park says an investigation has concluded that Jens Elberling shot his son late last week and then killed himself.

Neighbors said Elberling was renting the home and had only recently moved in. The prosecutor's office says the boy didn't attend local schools but was homeschooled.
