A Friday afternoon shooting in Plainfield that left one person dead and two others injured, including a young child, remains under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park said in a statement released Saturday.

The statement identified the deceased shooting victim as Anthony Bowles, 24, of Plainfield. It didn't say whether any suspects have been identified

Plainfield police were called to the 300 block of Evona Avenue in Plainfield’s West End at approximately 2:15 p.m. Friday to find the shooting victims in the immediate vicinity, the statement said. Bowles was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead, while a 33-year-old female who was struck by gunfire received medical treatment at the scene, it said.

The injured child, a 6-year-old girl, was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment of gunshot wounds to the leg. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the statement said.

Authorities haven't made any statement as of yet as to what prompted the shooting or who may be responsible.

The statement said the shooting remains under active joint investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force, the Plainfield Police Division, the Union County Police Department’s Ballistics Unit, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
