The Port Authority of NY and NJ announced Sunday that some service will be restored in time for the Monday morning commute, although service between Newark and Journal Square will remain suspended, at least for the morning.

"Despite round-the-clock efforts by PATH crews and contractors since more than two feet of snow -- with drifts as high as 16 feet -- blanketed PATH tracks, third-rails, signals and switches. Most of the work has to be done manually, which is time-consuming," the Port Authority said in a press release Sunday. "Workers were successful in clearing the rail line between Journal Square and Grove Street, which had been suspended temporarily during the storm."

According to Port Authority, passengers will not have access to PATH trains at the Newark or Harrison stations, and will be redirected to Journal Square. A total of four train lines will be operational providing service between Journal Square and the World Trade Center, Journal Square to 33rd Street, Hoboken to the World Trade Center and Hoboken to 33rd Street.

The Authority is hoping to have service from Newark and Harrison restored in time for the afternoon commute, the press release states.

In addition, NJ Transit will be cross-honoring PATH tickets at Newark Penn Station, although there may also be some operating limitations since NJ Transit is also experiencing some storm-related clean-up.

"NJ Transit operates service between Newark and Penn Station New York and between Newark and Hoboken. NJ Transit buses also will accept PATH rail tickets at Newark Penn and Harrison stations," the Authority stated.
