NJ’s Senior Tax Rebate Program Deadline Extended
State officials have extended the deadline for eligible New Jersey homeowners to apply for credits on their property tax bill.
All "senior freeze" applications had been due by Friday, while the deadline for homestead benefit applications was June 30.
But state Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff says the filing deadline for both programs is now Oct. 19.
The Homestead credit provides property tax credits for homeowners who earned $75,000 or less in 2011. Senior and disabled taxpayers who made $150,000 or less last year also are eligible.
The senior freeze program reimburses the difference between the amount of local property taxes eligible applicants paid when they enrolled in the program and the amount paid in the current year.
Recipients must be disabled or at least 65 years old.
