NJ Corrections Officers Accused of Falsifying Records

Two corrections officers at the Middlesex County jail have been indicted on charges that they falsified records, allegations that came to light after an inmate committed suicide last summer.

Gregory Fahy and Gustavo Sanchez both face an official misconduct charge and two counts of tampering with public records in the indictment handed up Wednesday by a county grand jury.

The pair were suspended without pay after a county investigation into the inmate's death last June.

Investigators determined that the officers had failed to perform some required duties -- including checks on inmates and inspections of their cells -- but falsely reported that they had completed the assignments.

Phone numbers for Fahy, a 26-year-old Woodbridge resident, and the 43-year-old Sanchez, who lives in East Brunswick, could not be located Wednesday.
