Nearly $60K raised for QB Evan Murray’s family, services begin Wednesday
More than $59,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe page for the family of Evan Murray, the Warren Hills Regional High School quarterback who died shortly after a game Friday night.
Several donations continue to roll in each hour from those who knew the high school senior and from strangers statewide who were heartbroken by the news.
"Although I did not know this young man my deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, teammates and the entire community!!!" one GoFundMe post read.
All money from the fundraising effort, created by a friend of Murray's on Saturday, is headed to the family for funeral expenses and medical bills. The original goal was $15,000.
At the same time, thousands of people have electronically signed an online petition aimed at getting the Blue Streaks field named in honor of the late quarterback.
Murray's visitation at Faith Discovery Church in Washington Township is scheduled for noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by a funeral at the church Thursday at 11 a.m.
