Ten-year-old Jacob Weatherbee was pulled from the burning home in Clifton by emergency responders shortly after they arrived around 2 a.m. Sunday. His 47-year-old mother, Veronica, and 13-year-old brother, Matthew, tried to find him as they fled but couldn't locate him due to the heavy smoke.

Veronica Weatherbee was being treated at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, while Jacob Weatherbee was at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Further details weren't disclosed.

The home is owned by Veronica Weatherbee's mother, Nina DeVincentis.

DeVincentis told The Record newspaper that an electric blanket sparked a couch fire. But authorities say the cause remains under investigation.
