The Asbury Park Zombie Walk has been postponed due to the potential early effects of Hurricane Joaquin on the Jersey Shore.

"There will be high winds and it will be predominantly an unpleasant day. We would never want to take the priority away from the keeping the city safe," said Jackie Pappas, executive director for the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce. "It seems to be prudent for everyone's safety and enjoyment to postpone the Walk until Saturday, October 10."

Gov. Chris Christie in a press conference about the storm struck a cautious tone as he prepared New Jerseyans for the worst.

The walk is especially significant this year as founder Jason Meehan had announced earlier this year he was shutting down the event due to costs — but more recently John McGillion, owner of Johnny Mac's bar, bought the rights to the walk and agreed to keep it in Asbury Park.

Pappas says planning for the event came together "nicely."

"Everyone was always expecting there would some type of event. I think this is really great because the event is secure forever more" in Asbury Park.

"A huge thank you to all the fans who continue to stay in touch with us and are supportive through the weather," Pappas said.
