Doesn’t it feel like it’s not quite summer in New Jersey until you’ve heard the jingle of the ice cream truck?

There’s a certain synapse that fires in your brain when you hear a song like “Turkey in the Straw” from a distance that signals “now it is summer… and I need to find my wallet to get a cold snack.” But what are you hoping it will have?

What do you get from the ice cream truck?

When the truck rolls down the street, everyone has that one item they’re craving.

I was always an Italian ice gal. Whereas my friends growing up would opt for one of those ice pops that are supposed to look like a cartoon character with bubble gum for eyeballs.

I always thought that they looked like if that character was made of putty and was distorted the microwave, but I’m not here to ‘yuck’ someone’s ‘yum.’

Do you think you can guess what New Jersey’s favorite ice cream treat is?

Just in time for National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 19, the site Little Sleepies set out to find out what the favorite ice cream truck treats are in each state.

To identify the most popular ice cream truck treat in every state, we analyzed Google Trends search interest over the past 12 months for 30+ classic frozen novelty treats commonly found on ice cream trucks across the U.S.

What do New Jerseyans crave when they want to cool down?

It’s not something like the standard Bomb Pop, Creamsicle, Strawberry Shortcake Bar, Cherry Pop, or a Fudge Pop.

New Jersey’s favorite treat from an ice cream truck is the ice cream sandwich

The ice cream sandwich is one of the oldest and most enduring frozen novelty treats sold by ice cream trucks, so it seems we in the Garden State have good taste.

Next time you hear that jingle, indulge in an ice cream sandwich like a true New Jerseyan.
