New Jersey Natural Gas has a longstanding tradition of not only serving customers but also serving the community as a whole to help residents live fuller, more rewarding lives. One way they are doing that this summer is by highlighting local charities through their sponsorship of our Asbury Park Boardwalk Studio.

This month, they're highlighting Preferred Behavioral Health Group, which has supported the community by providing a full spectrum of integrated medical services for mental health, substance use, and physical wellness. With over 450 professional staff members, Preferred Behavioral Health provided services to over 30,000 individuals with 100,000 visits last year through 70 specialized programs for all ages, genders, races, and socioeconomic groups.

Since the start of the pandemic, there has been an unprecedented increase in local children with mental health issues — 24 percent increase for young children and 31 percent jump for teens. Unfortunately, suicide attempts also increased, especially for teen girls. If not addressed and treated, the long-term implications are dire and can dictate severe long-term mental health issues.

The good news is that help is available. The children are our future, and Preferred Behavioral Health Group has the resources and programs to provide support, assistance, and treatment. They are changing lives and saving lives!

For more information about the services that Preferred Behavioral Health Group offers, please go to preferredbehavioral.org, or call them at 732-367-4700. They also are seeking volunteers, donations, sponsors, and other community assistance.

And remember, we'll be broadcasting live from the Asbury Park Boardwalk Studio on the afternoon of Aug. 20. Stop by Ocean Avenue and 4th Avenue, say hi, and get your picture taken with us!
