Flood-Prone NJ Towns Prepare for Storm

Flood-prone New Jersey communities hard-hit by last fall's big storms are preparing to get whacked again.

The borough of Manville on the Raritan River is using its reverse 911 system to warn residents about the approach of Hurricane Sandy.

Emergency Management director Ken Otrimski says shelters will probably be open Monday and residents will be allowed to park their cars at an old mall on high ground.

Residents are being asked to review their flood preparation plans.

About 1,000 of the Somerset County borough's 3,000 homes were swamped last year by Tropical Storm Irene and remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. Some homeowners in flood-prone areas were given the chance to sell their homes after that disaster.
