A fire ripped through at least two buildings along Hoboken's main business district Saturday night and injured several firefighters, NJ.com reported

The fire was seen coming out of the top of a building on 507 Washington Street about 10 p.m., and the flames also damaged a neighboring building at 507 Washington.

NJ.com reported that blaze was under control early Sunday morning.

Police Chief Ken Ferrante told NJ.com that an unspecified number of firefighters were injured as they fought the fire in brisk winds. Ferrante said the injuries were minor. A dispatcher at the Hoboken Fire Department declined to provide more information to The Associated Press.

Residents of the buildings were evacuated safely from the buildings, officials said.

The fire attracted the attention of dozens of nighttime revelers in a mile-square city across the Hudson River from midtown Manhattan that is known for its thriving nightlife. The fire also forced the shutdown of several blocks of the main business thoroughfare in a city known as Frank Sinatra's birthplace to accommodate numerous fire and police vehicles.

Daniel Vergara, a cameraman who happened to be walking in the neighborhood, told the AP that he saw residents of the buildings and large numbers of firefighters and police officers at the scene.
