KEANSBURG — A family of eight was driven from their Monmouth County home by a two-alarm fire early Tuesday morning.

The father of the family was airlifted for treatment of smoke inhalation after rescuing a baby and one of his small children from the home on Raritan Avenue, according to Keansburg Mayor George Hoff.

Fios 1 New Jersey reported the father suffered burns to his mouth and was in critical condition. A total of six children were hospitalized, according to the report.

Hoff said he drove by the two story house, which looked to have taken "significant damage," and no fire fighters were injured. The father is expected to be okay.

The American Red Cross helped provide temporary shelter for the family.
