The university announced the appointment of Sheldon Drucker on Tuesday. He succeeds J. Michael Adams, who died last June after serving as FDU's leader for 12 years.

Drucker has been the school's acting president for about two years, taking the post when Adams went on medical leave. University officials have said they received more than 70 applications for the president's job.

Drucker has served with FDU for 17 years, holding various administrative posts. Before that, he held high-ranking posts in the financial industry.
