MILLSTONE (AP) — Authorities say a falling tree struck and seriously injured a man who was playing horseshoes at an Elks Lodge in Monmouth County.

The Asbury Park Press reports that the 55-year-old man suffered a head injury when the tree hit him around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Millstone. He was playing in a backyard area of the lodge when he was struck.

The man remained hospitalized Sunday, and further details on his condition were not disclosed. His name has not been released.

No other injuries were reported in the accident.

State police are trying to determine what caused the roughly 20-foot-tall tree to fall.
