Miss New Jersey 2013 and southern New Jersey TV anchor Cara McCollum wasn't wearing a seatbelt in the serious crash that has left her in critical condition, State Police said Tuesday afternoon.

The single-car crash involving McCollum, 24, of Margate, occurred Monday evening in Pittsgrove Township, in Salem County, police said.

Police have found in their preliminary investigation that at 6:53 p.m., McCollum was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang convertible northbound on State Highway 55 at milepost 38.4 when she ran off of the right side of the roadway and struck several trees, police said.

The driver's side front airbag deployed, and McCollum was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, police said.

She sustained serious injuries and was transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden where she was last listed in critical condition, police said. State Police didn't expect to offer further updates Tuesday.
