OLDMANS — A flying dumbbell crashing through the front windshield of a car sent a 75-year-old motorist to the hospital and snarled traffic in Salem County on the New Jersey Turnpike Monday morning.

The New Jersey State Police reported the accident occurred on the southbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike in Oldmans Township near mile marker 6.6.

The driver was taken across the border by a medivac helicopter to Crozer Regional Trauma Center.

As of 10:40 Monday morning the state police were still on the scene investigating with no word on when the roadway would be fully reopened. Police didn't say when contacted where the dumbbell came from.
