HOWELL — The man who police say was involved in a bar brawl over the weekend before fleeing at 100 mph on the highway has been arrested.

The man was identified as 37-year-old John A. Murphy, of New Egypt.

Police say Murphy brawled Sunday at Tom's Tavern after a woman confronted him for being at the bar instead of going home to his family.

Officers who responded to the bar encountered Murphy on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle before he sped away on Route 195. Police said Murphy left behind his helmet, which they used as a clue to identify him.

The Howell Police Department said it received anonymous tips, which also helped to point them to Murphy.

He was arrested at his home on Thursday and charged with second-degree eluding.
