Bob McDevitt, head of Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union, says the extra money online betting would bring in could make the difference between two or more casinos surviving or having to close.

The New Jersey Legislature has passed the betting bill and Christie has about a week to act on it.

The governor vetoed a similar bill in March 2011, citing concerns about its constitutionality and the proliferation of back-room Internet betting parlors.

The governor has given no indication whether changes made to the most recent bill will be enough to win his support.
