3 Indicted in 2002 “Baby Bones” Case

FREEHOLD, NJ — Three New York City residents have been indicted on charges stemming from the 2002 death of a 9-year-old girl whose remains were found in central New Jersey three years later.

Monmouth County prosecutors announced that the girl’s aunt, 39-year-old Likisha Jones, and her 48-year-old husband, Godfrey Gibson, both of Manhattan, and her 35-year-old uncle, James Jones of Brooklyn, face counts of hindering apprehension of another, tampering with physical evidence, obstruction and conspiracy to commit those crimes.

The investigation came to be known as the “Baby Bones” case after burned, skeletal remains were found in Upper Freehold Township in 2005.

Authorities said the body was that of 9-year-old Jon-Niece Jones, who was abused and died at her aunt’s New York City home in August 2002.
