A New Jersey Coast Guard crew rescued two men Friday after their boat ran aground near Millville.

According to the Coast Guard, the vessel ran aground while sailing on the Maurice River near Millville. Initially, the Cumberland County Fire Department attempted a surface rescue but were forced to abandon the effort due to environmental factors, the Coast Guard said in a press release Friday.

"The Coast Guard received a request for assistance from the Cumberland County Fire Department, which had personnel on scene with the grounded boat, but could not safely transport the men ashore," Coast Guard officials said in a statement.

To assist with the rescue, a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City responded and hoisted the two men from the boat. They were then transferred to an emergency medical crew at the Millville Airport, Coast Guard officials said.
