Close to New Jersey - The dangerous enterovirus is here. The same infection that has caused such concern in the midwest was confirmed in the northeast this week. Now there is word four kids were treated at Philadelphia's Children's Hospital for it over the last few days. The CDC says Enterovirus has been spreading rapidly. Enterovirus can cause flu like symptoms...and severe difficulty breathing, espiailly in kids with asthma. There is no vaccine and no specific known treatments...

Concern About Rice, Peterson - New Jersey based Campbells Soup is the latest to express concern about the way the NFL Is handling domestic violence cases. Campbell's has spoken to the NFL specifically about the Ray Rice scandal. They are the latest big dollar advertiser to express concern joining McDonald's, Visa, and others.

Anheuser-Busch issued the strongest statement saying they were disappointed and increasingly concerned with the way the league has handled the Rice situation and the child abuse allegations against Vikings running back Adrian Perterson. The NFL brings in over a billion dollars a year from its official sponsors and that does not include advertising costs.

As for Rice and Peterson, Rice is appealing his indefinite suspension from the league. Peterson, who was reinstated by the Vikings on Monday has now been essentially suspended again by the team whole he deals with multiple allegations of beating his children.

Central Command Visit - President Obama is consulting today with military officials about the U.S. counter-terrorism campaign against Islamic State militants. He'll be visiting U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida. Meanwhile, Congress continues debate on whether the U.S. should train and arm Syrian moderate troops in the battle against the militants. The House could vote today and the senate within days.

We're Number 8 - A new survey of drivers nationwide purports to show the states with the most discourteous drivers.

Inappropriate Signage - Firefighters in Monroe Township will be punished for flying a banner asking women to flash a particular body part during the Firefighter's Convention in Wildwood last week. Town officials have issued an apology and are meeting to decide what disciplinary action to take.

Fixing a Wrong - Shaneen Allen is a single mom from Philadelphia with no criminal record, but she's facing a mandatory three-year prison term in New Jersey because she was caught with a gun she's legally allowed to have in Pennsylvania. The Assembly Republican leader says that's just not right...

Room for Improvement - New Jersey hospitals did they best they could during Hurricane Sandy and some did extraordinary work in horrible conditions but federal inspectors say they have to do better when the next storm hits. The review says almost 9-in-10 hospital experienced critical failures that need to be addressed: backup power, access to more beds, flood mitigation.

Welfare Ban - It may sound good on the surface but a ban on welfare for weed is riddled with holes. Congress wants to stop welfare recipients from using their welfare debit cards to buy pot. However, the cards can still be used to get cash from an ATM which can be used to buy drugs...

Mom in Court - 23 years ago, Timothy Wiltsey disappeared from a carnival in Sayreville, and 11 months later his skeletal remains were found in a marshy area in Edison. No one was ever charged with the 5 year old's murder until yesterday when his own mother made her first appearance in court.

King of Convenience - Its one of the age old debates in New Jersey: Wawa or 7-11. A new survey this morning only adds fuel to the fire. Despite there being far more 7-11 stores. New Jerseyans prefer Wawa by a 2-to-1 margin. Especially when it comes to food and coffee....

Small Tip, Big Return - We've told you about the 20-cent tip the Eagles Lesean McCoy left for a waiter at a Philly restaurant? The receipt, which went viral on social media, is now going for almost $100,000 on eBay. The wait staff will split whatever the final bid is.

 

Highway Suicide - It appears this morning a North Jersey man just stepped into traffic on I-287 Tuesday morning in Montville. Witnesses say they saw the 30-year old park his Jeep on the side of the highway and just step in front of a tractor trailer. He was killed instantly.

Suicide Prevention - Every year in New Jersey almost 700 people take their own lives. During September, Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, mental health experts are reminding us suicides can be prevented if we know what to look for, and how to follow up.

 

You're Hired - Donald Trump is looking at getting back into the Atlantic City gaming market by taking back control of the casino company that bears his name. It comes down to price, says the Donald, as Trump Entertainment heads for bankruptcy. Trump Plaza closed Tuesday. The Taj Mahal may close by the end of the year...
