Unconfirmed case of Legionnaires’ closes New Jersey building

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say they have closed a city building in Camden after an employee developed what they described as an unconfirmed case of Legionnaires' disease.

The city said Friday that it has removed staff and redirected programming at a public building because of the case.

City spokesman Vincent Basara tells Philly.com that the employee worked at the North Camden Community Center.

The statement says the city is working with Camden County health officials to monitor the situation and that the building will stay closed until results come back from a lab.

Legionnaires' is a form of pneumonia, with symptoms including shortness of breath, headaches, coughing and fever. Health officials say the disease is spread through water containing legionella bacteria.
