Good Samaritan Bill

New Jersey's Good Samaritan Law, which protects people who report drug overdoses from criminal prosecution, has been on the books for a couple of months, but the drug overdose fatality rate is still high, so state officials are launching a public awareness campaign.

Legislation that provides legal protection to people who violate the law while they are attempting to help a drug overdose victim, and those who administer overdose antidotes, has been signed into law.

New Jersey lawmakers in the Assembly and State Senate have passed a revised version of legislation known as the Overdose Prevention Act.

Legislation designed to encourage Good Samaritan acts has cleared the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee.

Earlier this year, the Good Samaritan Emergency Response Act was passed by both the State Assembly and Senate…which would give limited protection from charges for those who call emergency personnel to report overdoses.
