New Jersey officials have announced the launch of a year-long statewide investigation of "cash for gold" stores, but the owners of these establishments aren't the only ones who should watch out.

Criminal and civil charges are being brought against the operators of Somerset County jewelry shops as the result of a joint cash-for-gold undercover sting called “Operation Somer Gold.”

With many folks desperate to get their hands on any extra money possible, cash-for-gold establishments have been popping up all over New Jersey. Under current state law, they are required to submit transaction records to law enforcement officials. However, some towns feel more rules are needed.
