Over the last few years, law enforcement has been increasingly troubled by fake marijuana sold under names like "K2," "Spice" and "Space Cadet" that was found for sale at gas stations and other sites.

The Assembly passed the measure Monday on a 73-1 vote. It now goes to Gov. Chris Christie for consideration.

State authorities had already cracked down on drugs designed to mimic the effects of marijuana. Last year, the state Division of Consumer Affairs reclassified the drugs as controlled dangerous substances as a way to restrict access to the substances.

Under the measure, people who make, distribute or possess the drugs could face up to 10 years in prison.
