State Inspects Home Heating Oil Trucks

 Consumer Affairs officials want to be sure New Jerseyans get what they pay for when it comes to home heating oil.

Officials conducted surprise inspections of 20 trucks on Thursday and took three out of service for having inaccurate meters.

Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa says the approximately 300,000 households in the state that rely on home heating oil can't afford to pay more for fuel than they actually receive.

Inspectors with the Weights and Measures Division conducted the inspections at fuel depots in Newark and Mercer County.

Four trucks were cited for failure to have the required documentation indicating they had been registered and annually inspected. The owners will be issued notices of violation and face fines up to $500.
