The Courier-Post reports Campbell's is in the planning stages of a project that would put 8,000 to 9,000 solar panels atop its corporate offices and neighboring properties.

Officials say the 4.4-megawatt solar field will meet approximately 30 percent of the headquarters' annual energy needs.

The project was approved by Camden's zoning board earlier this month and is currently in the design stage. There is no scheduled completion date at this time.

Campbell's hopes to obtain at least 40 percent of its power from renewable or alternative energy sources.

The company will buy the power from Camden installation at a rate lower than their current electric cost.

The system will include both ground- and roof-mounted panels.
