Last week I wrote an article suggesting a law that would impose tougher penalties on those who take advantage of natural disasters. We could call it “Sandy’s Law.”

My thought was that it would apply to scammers who were trying to screw people out of their reconstruction money. It could also apply to looters who broke into alarm-less homes and went on their own shopping spree. Apparently State Senator Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex) concurs.

From the article we read..

TOUGH RESPONSE

Reports of looting have moved one state legislator to call for tougher prosecutions of those charged with raiding in the wake of a crisis like Sandy. State Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex) announced legislation Wednesday that would call for courts to consider stiffer sentences for people accused of theft and burglary during a state of emergency.

"We cannot allow anyone to prey on those hardest hit in a natural disaster like the one we just experienced," she said.

I totally agree with the idea. How do you feel?
